About me

I am trained in humanistic and person centred therapy and also integrate elements from gestalt and somatic psychotherapy in my practice. I am currently training in pluralistic counselling and psychotherapy which assumes different clients are likely to benefit from different therapeutic methods at different points in time. Pluralism allows for a more responsive and fluid approach to a client's needs and therefore therapy is a collaborative process and client led.

My background in person centred psychotherapy means that I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, a safe place for the client to be heard and met with compassion and positive unconditional regard. I am committed to clients feeling safe and held in the therapy space.

I have over 20 years of experience as a secondary school teacher and Additional Educational Needs Coordinator. In my role, I have worked with adolescents and parents to best support them in their neurodivergence. I have extensive experience working with young people with Dylsexia, ADHD and ASD, helping them to understand themselves in a system that doesn't always recognise their strengths. As a member of the LGBT community, I also have an understanding of the difficulties faced in society for people seeking to understand their identity and sexuality and offer a safe and compassionate space in which to do the work with adolescents and adults alike.

I was inspired to name my practice after one of my favourite poems about living our passion, creativity and purpose by finding our centre, our immoveable alter and shaping ourselves anew.

The Forge
By Seamus Heaney

All I know is a door into the dark.
Outside, old axles and iron hoops rusting;
Inside, the hammered anvil's short-pitched ring,
The unpredictable fantail of sparks
Or hiss when a new shoe toughens in water.

The anvil must be somewhere in the centre,
Horned as a unicorn, at one end square,
Set there immoveable: an altar
Where he expends himself in shape and music.

Sometimes, leather-aproned, hairs in his nose,
He leans out on the jamb, recalls a clatter
Of hoofs where traffic is flashing in rows;
Then grunts and goes in, with a slam and a flick
To beat real iron out, to work the bellows.
